McCalls 7969 – Little Zebra Dress

It’s hard to believe that it was almost a year ago I finished making McCalls 7969 (and yes, I’m just now blogging about it… oops). This little zebra dress is my most worn make of all time! The moment I saw this fabric at Joann’s I had to have it. Something about the scale of the print paired with the neutral background felt very Anthropologie to me.

I’ve realized that when I pay more attention to the finishing of a garment, it feels less homemade and then I end up wearing it more often. This dress was made before I had a serger, so I sewed french seams throughout to keep the fabric from fraying in the wash. Lining the skirt also made the dress more wearable. Overall I am thrilled with how this one turned out and would highly recommend McCalls 7969.

McCalls 7969 Pattern Information and Modifications:

PATTERN: McCalls 7969, View C – you can buy it here.
FABRIC: 100% Polyester (sold out online, but check your local Joann’s – mine still had plenty in-stock!) and 100% Rayon Challis (lining)
MODIFICATIONS: The zebra fabric was a little sheer, so I added a lining to the skirt. I also tacked the bodice right where the fabric crosses over to reduce gaping. It’s still a little bit lower than I would prefer but as long as I’m not doing any major bending over, it’s not too bad.
